Texas announced the contract extension through the 2030 season last month but had not released financial details. The extension includes $100,000 annual raises that will push Sarkisian's guaranteed salary to $10.9 million by the final year. According to the regents' agenda, the raises are a 78% overall increase in Sarkisian's guaranteed compensation. The Longhorns won the Big 12 in their final season in the league. Texas also is extending the contracts of tight ends coach Jeff Banks, offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.

The annual ritual is a point of local pride even as Eagle Pass draws wide attention for a showdown between Texas Gov. A few hours later, about 200 advocates were in a festive mood in the nearby town of Quemado ahead of a “Take Back Our Border” rally on Saturday. U.S. Border Patrol agents are denied entry. Eagle Pass, with about 30,000 people, has become a major corridor for illegal crossings in recent years, making it a target for Abbott's enforcement. The Biden administration told the Supreme Court that “Texas has effectively prevented Border Patrol from monitoring the border” at Shelby Park.

"To spend more time with my family and because I believe the next wave of revenue generation is around real estate and entertainment and those aren't my strengths," the billionaire responded. Cuban has never been shy about pointing out where his strengths lie, saying in the past that he is "really, really, really good at sales." Those pursuits make more sense for the Adelsons, who have a long history in the entertainment, casino and real estate space, Cuban said in a pre-game interview on Dec. 27th. A weapon that vastly exceeds the killing power of the Tommy guns banned in the 1930s is affordable and freely accessible.

“The legal cases have increasingly become a big part of the campaign strategy,” a Trump campaign adviser told CNN. The line between Trump’s political campaign and his legal operation gets blurrier by the day. But those plans are reliant on trial schedules that are out of their hands, forcing Trump’s campaign team to respond to potential summons with little lead time. ‘Cross that bridge when we get there’Trump is surrounded by what is widely viewed as his most disciplined political campaign team to date. Trump’s legal peril is a necessary issue that has to be dealt with in the eyes of many of his advisers.

This one won an extended Game 1 of the World Series for the Texas Rangers. If I did that, I’d be screaming, too,” Texas second baseman Marcus Semien said. “It's going to be a really good series,” García said. Brianna Mckiddy and her husband moved in August from Southern California to Houston. I was born and raised in Southern California, but in early August, I moved to Houston with my husband. I was pretty nervous about what living in Houston would be likeI was worried people in Texas would judge me for being from California. Thankfully, Houston is a massive city , so it's not like we had to transition from Southern California to a tiny town. It makes sense to me that so many people are leaving California for TexasI think many Californians are moving to Texas to lower their cost of living.

For both the 30-year-old García and the Texas Rangers. García has helped the Rangers reached the Fall Classic for the first time since 2011 with his big bat and passionate approach. García angrily went face-to-face with catcher Martín Maldonado as benches and bullpens cleared before the Astros came back to win. “He’s someone who knows me, knows my abilities, knows what I can do,” García said of Arozarena. García went to spring training as a non-roster invite and hit .375 with three homers, 13 RBIs and four stolen bases in 22 games.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers are back in the World Series for the first time since twice being within one strike of winning the 2011 title. And these Rangers won't even be the first team to play in a World Series at Globe Life Field, their retractable-roof stadium that opened in 2020. Freese led off the 11th with a game-ending homer, and the Cards won Game 7 the following night. That 2016 division title is still the last for the Rangers, one of six big league teams without a World Series title. “I came here to get to the World Series, but I came here to win it.”___

CNN —Both benches cleared as tempers flared in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers on Friday. García immediately dropped his bat and turned to confront Houston catcher Martín Maldonado, with the pair exchanging words. Although no punches were thrown, Abreu, García and Houston manager Dusty Baker were all ejected after a delay of almost 12 minutes. They now hold a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven series, having won the last three games, and are one win from a spot in the World Series. The winner will face either the Philadelphia Phillies or the Arizona Cardinals in the World Series.

3 Texas got a dominant game from its defense to overpower Baylor in a 38-6 win Saturday night to launch the Longhorns into their final Big 12 season. Texas will join the Southeastern Conference next year and will be finishing out the Big 12 with several last matchups with old rivals. Baylor: The Bears are two seasons away from winning a Big 12 championship and this one is unraveling fast. It wasn’t so long ago that presidents, education secretaries and governors were willing to do the tough work of reforming our schools. That was no coincidence — these were the very groups that No Child Left Behind intended to help, by implementing test score requirements and expecting everyone to reach the same standards. And it worked, likely contributing to higher high school graduation and college attainment rates, and possibly to better real-life outcomes, too. It’s true that No Child Left Behind was imperfect. Still, the bipartisan effort that was No Child Left Behind ultimately fell apart as our politics fractured.

On Monday, a federal judge in Washington, DC, set March 4, 2024, as the start date for the first of his two federal criminal trials. Track developments in Trump’s criminal cases. There will also be a busy court schedule between now and the trial date start as the prosecution and defense offer and respond to pretrial motions, witnesses and other issues. Chutkan said during the proceeding Monday she contacted the judge overseeing Trump’s criminal trial in New York, related to hush-money payments in 2016, which is set to begin March 25. He told CNN’s Jim Sciutto on Monday that there should be time to complete the federal election interference case before voters choose the next president.

Iris’s underlying anxiety is heightened by a horrific hate crime she narrowly escaped in her childhood. But as a mother, she turns out to be not that different from her own, raising her 9-year-old daughter, Mel, to value safety and conformity. When Iris moves into a predominantly white suburban housing development with Mel, she begins to see a mysterious wall in her front yard grow taller every night. The wall becomes a sort of societal gaslighting, a symbol of what we people of color know, but is not acknowledged. But only citizens can obtain these coveted bands, and even then, the children of immigrants, like Iris, are excluded.

Republicans Impeach One of Their Own

Since 2016, the cardinal rule of Republican politics has been to defend Donald J. Trump and his allies at all costs, no matter the allegation. That appeared to change last week, when Texas lawmakers issued 20 articles of impeachment against their state’s attorney general, Ken Paxton, a powerful Trump supporter. J. David Goodman, the Houston bureau chief for The New York Times, explains what the escalating conflict in Texas indicates about tensions within the party.

When Every Win Means Water, Water Everywhere

When Every Win Means Water EverywherePicture yourself at work. Teleport this scene into a sports locker room, though, and suddenly the dousing is perfectly in bounds. But like many coaches, he eventually accepted his fate, removing his shoes before entering the locker room. The athletes were unwinding in the locker room when Coach Mark Few and his assistants charged in and began sousing them with ice-cold water. Isaiah Wong, the team’s star shooting guard, said they would only consider spraying water now if they won the championship.
The pre-Roe laws include criminal penalties for people who help others obtain an abortion. Pitman's order, which is preliminary, will remain in place while abortion funding groups, including Fund Texas Choice, The North Texas Equal Access Fund and The Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity, move forward with a lawsuit seeking to block enforcement of the laws. The order applies only to five individual local prosecutors who are named as defendants in the case, though the groups have said they will seek to expand their case to include a class of all local prosecutors in the state. Paxton's office and lawyers for the abortion funds and for the local prosecutors did not immediately respond to requests for comment. They cited statements by Paxton and by some state lawmakers suggesting that the pre-Roe laws criminalized funding or facilitating such abortions.
Texas spent just under $9 million busing migrants across the country over the holidays. In total, Texas has now spent roughly $29 million on the program since April 2022. According to public records obtained by Insider, Abbott's migrant bus program cost the Texas Division of Emergency Management $8.97 million over the November and December holidays. Many of those on these Texas buses are people seeking asylum — a legal right — fleeing poverty and political persecution in countries such as Nicaragua, Cuba, and Venezuela. In November, Domingo Garcia, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, argued that the millions spent busing migrants would have been better spent elsewhere, according to WFAA.
The Supreme Court will hear a case that began when Texas and Louisiana sued to invalidate immigration-enforcement guidelines. WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court on Tuesday will consider the executive branch’s power to set priorities in enforcing immigration law, in a case that also tests the legal standing of states to bring their policy differences with Washington to court. Last year, Texas and Louisiana sued to invalidate enforcement guidelines, issued by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, that prioritize the deportation of those immigrants illegally in the country who pose an imminent threat to national security or public safety. That approach replaced Trump-era policies that sought to have immigration officers remove any noncitizen present illegally.
Audiences will see how the battle in the Texas Legislature over gender-affirming care for trans children is far from a mere partisan philosophical argument or campaign talking point for me. That’s the year a flood of anti-LGBTQ bills were introduced in the Texas Legislature — the majority of which directly targeted trans kids and their families. This year dealt Texas trans families a double blow when state Attorney General Ken Paxton delivered a nonbinding legal opinion that gender-affirming care for children was child abuse — followed by a directive from Gov. We acted quickly as a family, breaking the news of our pending out-of-state move to Noah over an unforgettably sad dinner. Despite it all, Texas is where our hearts reside, no matter how many miles might separate us and how directly damaging Republican rhetoric has been.
Sixty vasectomies will be offered over three days in and outside Planned Parenthood clinics in St. Louis, Springfield and Joplin to uninsured patients during the first week of November amid what the clinics say is a surge in demand for the procedure. Guarin also plans to offer discounted vasectomies that month at his regular clinic in the Des Moines area. Guarin, who serves on the medical advisory board for the World Vasectomy Day, helped offer vasectomies last year at the Planned Parenthood in St. Louis to raise awareness about the procedure. In July alone, the Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri performed 42 vasectomies, compared to 10 in the same month last year. Dr. Margaret Baum, the medical director of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, will be partnering with Guarin to provide the free vasectomies.
